Profile PictureDr. Avinash Chandra Gupta, 1971 batch Rajendra Medical College & Hospital, was born in village Karum, block Lapung in Ranchi. He did his primary education in Karum & Kakaria and came to Ranchi in 1962 where he studied from grade V to VII in St. Aloysius’, grade VIII to XI in St. John’s and Pre U. Sc. & B.Sc. I in St. Xavier’s and went on to do MBBS, DTMH & MD (Medicine) from RMCH. He worked at HEC Hospital, was in Bihar Govt. service in  Lesliganj block in Palamu & Ratu  block in Ranchi before leaving for USA in 1986. He did his Residency in Internal Medicine in New York & was Chief Resident there. He did his Fellowship in Cardiology at State University of NY. He went on to get Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology and Lipidology. He is currently practicing Cardiology in New Jersey and is affiliated to 3 area hospitals.

He wants to give back to the community which gave him so much. Thus, he established Dr. Avinash Gupta Foundation to serve this purpose. Since 2008, he has established four scholarships (of Rs. 2000 for Class VII & Rs. 3000 for class X) at both St. Aloysius’ & St. John’s. Two students –  one boy and one girl of science stream Part I, II and III have been getting 6 scholarships of Rs. 6000 each since 2008 at St. Xavier’s College. Starting 2010, each year, the best student (topper) of RMCH will be awarded a gold medal & Rs. 10,000 through Ranchi University.

For the next phases, Dr. Gupta is searching for local volunteers to aid the Foundation in providing health & education to local needy people. Intended plans include running charitable clinics- both mobile and stationary, spreading literacy among illiterate – both young & old, providing safe drinking water in villages, opening mini libraries, computer learning centers, sewing centers and other cottage industries to help people help themselves.
